Our Firm Offers Individualized Help With Citizenship

Attorney Cynthia M. Ceballos has dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico. She has experience in immigration and citizenship cases. In her work as a lawyer, she has a personal connection to the clients seeking the freedom to live and work here.

She has more than 13 years of experience in assisting clients in their application for U.S. citizenship. Our New Orleans area firm wants our clients to enjoy the benefits of citizenship — to travel outside national borders, the right to vote and run for public office, and to receive government social services and benefits. As a naturalized citizen, you also are eligible to sponsor relatives who inside or outside the U.S.

How Can I Become A Citizen?

The United States government allows foreign-born persons to gain United States citizenship through a legal process known as naturalization.

A candidate for naturalization must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and lived for five years or longer as a permanent resident (three years if married to a U.S. citizen)
  • Have a good moral character
  • Speak and understand English (this requirement may be waived if the applicant is over a certain age or disabled)
  • Pass a citizenship test on the history of the United States and its government

Other factors can influence your citizenship application. Past or current service in the U.S. Armed Forces can help. If your foreign-born child has lived most of his or her life in the U.S., is enrolled in school and meets other criteria, he or she may be able to remain in the United States and avoid deportation through a new deferred action policy.
